BARITA
Salt that when added to the drilling fluid causes it to increase its density notably without hardly changing its viscosity.
Uses
BARITA is mainly used in drilling under high ground or aquifer pressures. In aqueous solution its main applications are:
- Added to an activated mud, it notably increases the density and transport capacity of the drilling fluid.
- Support and give more stability to the borehole walls.
- Avoid siphoning when drilling confined groundwater tables at medium and high pressure.
